Knitting/Crocheting Club
I was thinking about starting a knitting club next quarter. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing it, if it's worth me putting in time into it.

Here's some basics:
-Meet once a week, in Olson?
-NOT for teaching knitting
-Music, parts of films, etc. if wanted

The idea is not to teach people how to knit or crochet, but to meet once a week and work on current projects and chat, possibly ask others for help if stuck on a certain pattern/technique.
Olson's not the comfiest place, but I feel like doing it at someone's house would be inconvenient to some people. Plus we could get one of the ones with the moveable desks and move them and sit on the floor, maybe I could bring pillows? Maybe that's dumb, I don't know.
Chatting while knitting is always nice, and I'll probably bring music along, but if you decide you hate my stupid indie shit or get bored and want to watch movies (1/2 film a week), that'd be cool too. We'd have to get a projector, or watch it on someone's computer.

Yeah, anyone?

I thought you taught her how to crochet.

Oh, yes, I did. I suck at knitting. She mentioned crochet in the post so I ignored all instances of "knitting" and automatically replaced them with "crocheting" in my mind.

YOU FILLED ME WITH HOPES AND DREAMS AND THEN TOOK THEM AW--

I'll learn to crochet too. But I really need to learn how to finish all of these damn scarves I started.

I can't help with that. I fail so hard at knitting, and I have no idea why. But it's fine, because anything you can do with knitting I can figure out how to do with crochet, so in my mind it's kind of redundant to learn both.

I meant like...I don't want to teach every person how to cast on and knit and purl. I'd be okay with helping though. And if there's a particularly difficult pattern, printing it and asking around and such.

There's the circular room in Olson, so Olson might work.

I've heard of this majestic room. I've never been inside. I was hoping for a room with tea kettles and gigantic couches and a CD player and a fireplace and blankets, but one can dream...

Griffin would almost fit that description if they hadn't changed it

The room, I believe, has a CD player, and a blue carpet. You should check it out.

Yes ^_^ That room is awesome.

Sounds cool, I might go to it (can't make promises though) assuming no time conflict.

I had a class in it. It would work quite well, if empty.

I'd go when I get to knitting again. I busted my wrist in the summer and haven't been able to thanks to the tendinitis left over ... it's so sad to see all my yarn and projects just sitting still, for months and months.

Oh no! I hope your wrist gets better. Is it the right or the left aka has it inhibited writing too?

Right - so it's really affected everything. Did you realize how difficult it is to open a door without moving your wrist?

I'm interested! At least, depending on my schedule next quarter. I feel like I don't have time to invest in crocheting during the academic year (well, quarter so far, since I only taught myself to crochet this past summer), so setting aside time once in a while sounds nice to me.

Yeah, me too. Right now I'm thinking Mondays at 7, but I need to also find out if that circle room will be available and we won't be knitting and some english class walks in. Good! I'll post again probably sometime during winter break with details, make a facebook group, etc.

There might be issues getting permission to get rooms if you are not an official club (or EC class) at UCD. You probably do need to look into the rules and regs of that before you try to meet in an official classroom.

I hear there's some local knitting group around town, but I am not sure where they are at these days (they always hold it somewhere or when that I can't go to).

Anyway, when you get things running, publicize it around the Craft Center, there's a good chunk of knitters hanging around there.

NOOOO I hate doing things the official way. I heard there was a 35 fee for making it a legit club too? Guh. I just figured if it was late they wouldn't care, since I know some frats hold random stuff in Olson rooms. Well, I'll look into it, thanks for the heads up.

And of course! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks!

I have run into the club issue thing before big time (plus my friend has had all kinds of issues getting rooms for her EC class), so I wanted to make sure you had the heads-up. If the room isn't officially reserved, it might be locked or some other group might be in there that you didn't know about, or the custodians might be in there (and they want to kick you out even if you've got the paperwork saying that the EC says you've got the room till 10)...it's drama.

I'd suggest having the meeting in the MU restaurant area, except now uh, you can't. Maybe the Silo would work if it went on before they close?

There's a Davis Knit Night with all the local Davis knitters that meets each Monday from 6:30=9sih at Stonegate Coffee in West Davis.

I saw this, but I don't know if I even have time to bike out to West Davis, since I live in East Davis thus it'd take a bit of time. Basically what I'm saying is all I have time for is school and home, and I know some people are like that too. Thus I think it'd be nice to have one on campus.
Maybe I'll do one later in the week, like Thursday, for hardcore avid knitters, if they want to go to both.
