Ahhhhhhhhh
I just read on the wiki that Osaka closed. I am very disappointed because I loved their udon. Where can I go now??? I'm going to try Zen Toro tonight, I think, but they are pretty expensive so perhaps I should open my eyes to other options as well. I know we have sushi places galore in Davis but I don't believe that they all serve udon.

I know it's a bit late, but Sushi Nobu (down 5th street, past the police station and whatnot, same mall as Jade Garden) serves Udon...I always thought it was pretty good.

I haven't actually gotten up to get food since I posted this. I'm going to have to make a list and try them all so I can find a new favorite place.

seconding sushi nobu, altho very occasionally they'll give you a plate of something so *off* that it's simply disgusting. otherwise it's pretty great. they recognize us there now.

I go to Nobu for sushi but I've never explored their other food items. I once told Evan that I will try anything (which I will) so he ordered me the jellyfish sushi from Nobu. Man, it was like eating fiber optics. Seriously, weirdest thing I have ever tried.

I had their jellyfish once.

...Definitely a one time thing. :P

Yes, for sure a one time experience. I still stand by my claim that I will try anything once, but that doesn't mean I have to finish it.

if that's what their jellyfish was like, then they're doing it wrong.
good jellyfish should be kinda like chicken flavored gummy worms.

It was kind of like crunchy gummy worms. Not crunchy in the potato chip sense, though, crunchy in the fiber optics sense.

it shouldn't be crunchy...

How about the Osaka in Woodland, is that location still open?

It is, but usually I don't just drive to Woodland on a whim like I would to the Davis location. Okay, that's a lie, I go to Woodland on a whim all the time, but not for food and not usually at night (which is udon time). I pretty much just go to the Costco shopping center and occasionally Jo-anne's, which are both on the very edges of town.

Maybe I will try it sometime. I didn't actually know it existed until I tried to look up the hours on the wiki today and found that the Davis one is closed but that the Woodland one is still open.

Nobu has udon, yes. Zen Toro is a bit pricey for what they would serve you, yeah.

Noted and noted. I shall try both and decide from there. Though I suspect that the $3 price difference between the two will be much the deciding factor.

Only went to Osaka a handful of times. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. I would suggest Nobu for standard fare, or maybe Mikuni's for something a little more substantial.

Alternatively, the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to is Ozumo in SF.

I've never been to Mikuni's. I figured it was just another sushi place.

I definitely don't go to San Francisco on a whim... ever. If I ever find myself in the neighborhood perhaps I will try it.

Osaka is the best sushi I've ever had, and is the only place, along with Mikuni's, where I've found the sushi to be good. Granted, the prices a Osaka didn't exactly make it the usual choice for dining, but their sushi was amazing.

I still find it funny that for the longest time you praised Osaka like a deity, now it's just "okay." :P

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like sushi. I never tried the sushi there but now I'm thinking I should have, if it was that delicious!

Noodle City is pretty good. I haven;t been there in a few years, but they used to have delicious Udon and Ramen

Never mind, I was thinking of Noodle Express. Apparently they are only closed temporarily.

I don't know if they serve Udon specifically but the soups (like their Miso Ramen especially) at Oshio, right next to campus are fabulous! I highly recommend them. :)

I can't say I've ever been there. Is that the one near the death star under the deck of Raja's (kinda)?
