OK see yesterday I was thinking "hey those protesters seem stupid-why are they attempting to block an interstate that has nothing to do with our school's fee hikes?" now, I'm simply thinking they are fucking morons. I really get pissed when people do shit like this. How exactly does that thought process go? "Hmm-fee hikes...fee hikes....what should we do? Oooh I know-let's disturb all of our fellow students who are going through the same thing! Let's interrupt the classes that the pay so much for! That'll teach em! Oh that's not enough...what else....oh I know-let's make it so a STUDENT RUN organization like Unitrans can't run properly. Let's ignore the fact that we spend a whopping $18/YEAR on them and it's only students trying to get to campus. Let's block those douchebags and inconvenience everyone!"

See I wasn't a huge fan of them blocking Mrak hall month or two ago, but at least that made some kind of sense. I mean if you're gonna back up traffic and inconvenience students, you're gonna turn the people of Davis and the student body against you.

Oh and what's with the girl holding the American flag upside down? Does she hate America now that she has to pay more fees? I'm really not normally this angry, but this kinda stuff ticks me off to no end

See, there seems to be a mistaken idea, that students have a need to rally as anti-establishmentarialists to fight whatever imperialist rule those dirty scoundrels in Sac and Washington have to reduce fee hikes.

So somehow, we're finding these anarchistic idiots just being jackasses to get a camera pointed at them, a camera that the so-called "establishment" that they so hate has provided for them.

this is the hardest thing about protesting to understand

the unwritten rule is escalation, if you feel that not enough people know that you're pissed off, then you take to unrelated people, get in their way, and cause as big a scene as possible

it really isnt about getting on "sides". the issue is right there for you to decide on it
it's not really about recruitment
the point is that you're in the way because you're extraordinarily pissed and you're willing to hinder or halt common, everyday activities for it, related to the topic of protesting or not.

now whether people understand that anger or think you're a bunch of entitled brats is a whole nother buncha bananas

just another way of communicating

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

And you made that argument to a communication major.

Communication implies a meaning being conveyed effectively from point A to point B. Was their implied message "We're going to be douches"?

Because unless they were trying to be a nuisance, they only succeeded in miscommunication.

So are you saying that everyone yesterday was trying to say they were douches, or Were they purposefully miscommunicating?

but see I don't know about other people but I sometimes have a sort of cynical side. If a loud group of jerks are protesting, but doing it in a non-peaceful way and obstructing traffic both in town and on the highway, I instinctively want to go against whatever they support.

He's not offended, he's just separating the cause from the support.

It's like when you really like this one show, but everyone else you know who likes that show is a giant cock, so you start hating the show if just because you don't want to have anything in common with them.

ALSO WELCOME TO STUDENT PROTESTS, WHERE THEY ONLY THING THAT GETS DONE IS PISSING OFF THEIR SUPPORT BASE.

This makes me curious as to what the protesters here in SF did. I mean, other then run down the streets yelling drunkenly at 2am.
